what's the catch —
The honest list of what we don't do.
- ·We don't gate features behind a Pro tier. Every widget, every wall, every option — same on day one as on day a thousand.
- ·We don't cap your widgets, walls, or testimonials. Make twenty, make a hundred. They all work the same.
- ·We don't run ads or sell your data. No tracking pixels in the embeds, no behavioural retargeting on your testimonials.
- ·We don't lock you in. Export your testimonials as JSON or images any time. The data is yours.
- ·We don't have a "Contact sales" tier. There is no plan above the free one. There is no enterprise SKU. There is no pricing call.
- ·We do show a tiny "Powered by Shosay" pill on widgets and walls. Tasteful, removable on a paid plan we may ship one day; until then, it's how strangers find Shosay.
how shosay stays in operation —
An honest, itemized look.
If donations cover this, Shosay runs another quarter. If they don't, we'll say so. (Pilot numbers, refreshed monthly.)

a note from the maintainer —
I've been helping people who are just getting started in their career for about as long as I've been working — 10th hire at Eventbrite in 2008, then founding engineer at Reforge, then I started Casting Call Club for aspiring creators (about 3M people now), then Closing Credits to help those same people level up. Shosay is the next step in that line: a way for small operators and creators to share the work they've already done.
It's free because the testimonial-widget market is one of the strangest pricing landscapes on the internet. Trustpilot wants $3,000 a year before they'll let you embed a star rating. Senja's top plan is $99/mo for what is basically static HTML. Yotpo gates the actual reviews behind a $799/mo "Premium" tier. None of this is hard software — it's a database table, some HTML, and a polite "Powered by." The industry decided to charge SaaS prices for it because they could.
Shosay is the same set of widgets, walls, and forms — and it's free for everyone, because charging the people I built it for would defeat the point. It exists because of donations and my spare time. If donations stop covering hosting, I'll write to you about it before I do anything else. There won't be a quiet introduction of a "Pro" tier or a paywall on a feature you've been using for months.
Keep it free, keep it transparent, and ask honestly when it can't pay for itself.

keep it free —
Sponsor a month of hosting.
Every donation goes to the line items above — servers, storage, bandwidth. None of it unlocks features for you, gets you a badge, or makes us answer your support tickets faster. It just keeps Shosay free for the next person.

Recurring. Pause or cancel any time.
Donations bring no perks, no badges, no priority support. The only thing donations buy is more Shosay.
faq —
Quick questions.
Really, no monthly fee? +
Really. Build all the widgets, all the walls, embed them anywhere, capture testimonials forever. You don't pay Shosay for any of it.
Then how do you actually run the company? +
On donations and goodwill. Shosay isn't trying to be a profitable business — it's trying to exist for as long as people want it to. The budget table above is the real number we need.
Is there a widget cap or a testimonials cap? +
No. Make as many widgets and walls as you want; collect as many testimonials as you can. Reasonable abuse safeguards aside (we'll talk to you if something looks like a botnet), there's no hard cap.
Does the widget have a 'Powered by Shosay' on it? +
Yes — a small white pill at the bottom of every widget and wall. It's how strangers find us. If we ever ship a paid plan, removing the pill would be one of the things it buys; until then, it stays.
Can I export my testimonials and leave? +
Yes. Every testimonial you've collected belongs to you. We have an export option in your account, and we'll add JSON/CSV on request.
Do you take a cut of anything? +
No. We don't take a fee on widget views, on testimonials collected, on traffic, on any of it. The only payments through Shosay are donations to keep the project running.
What happens if you can't pay for hosting? +
I'll send a heads-up before doing anything else. There won't be a quiet pivot to a paywall on features you've been using free for years.
Can I cancel a monthly donation any time? +
One click. No phone calls, no retention email, no offers.
Do you sell my testimonials or my visitors' data? +
Never. The widget JS is a single iframe — no analytics scripts, no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting. The only thing it sends home is the heart-click count if you opt in.
What's the catch with Trustpilot at $3k/year? +
Trustpilot publishes review-collection invitations and gates the actual on-page widget behind a tier. They're a marketplace company that monetizes the widget access. Different model — we just don't think the widget itself is worth that.
